Outlook Web App only uses light version in IE

Had a patron that could not "uncheck" Use the light version of Outlook Web App
on their login screen.

They had Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7.   Solution is to use Compatability View:

To do this, press F10 to display the menu bar, go to the Tools menu in Internet Explorer 11, and then click Compatibility View settings. Then, add the OWA site to the list of sites to be viewed in compatibility view.

Apple warning message: unidentified developer

Got the following warning message when downloaded (softest, from Exam Soft)  "... unidentified developer.  Are you sure you want to open it?"

  1. In Finder, Control-click or right click the icon of the app.
  2. Select Open from the top of contextual menu that appears.
  1. Click Open in the dialog box. If prompted, enter an administrator name and password.
Note: If there is an app that presents multiple Gatekeeper dialog boxes, you can temporarily use Gatekeeper's "Always" option. Make sure to restore the Gatekeeper option that was there before to bring back Gatekeeper function.

booting into safe mode - Windows 8

Booting Windows 8 In Safe Mode When PC Is Not Starting
This one is a little tricky, because it takes trial and error (and patience) to launch the Windows 8 ‘recovery mode’ when start up sequence is on going. What you need to do is, past the BIOS splash screen, hold down the Shift key and repeatedly hit the F8 key. Doing so should get you to the recovery mode, but it might take a few tries before you achieve that.
Once the Recovery screen is displayed, click the See advanced repair options button. In the next screen, hit the Troubleshoot button.
Safe Mode 1

In the troubleshoot menu, click Advanced options, wherein lies Windows Startup Settings. Choose that.
Safe Mode 2
The next screen will ask you to restart your PC, after which you’ll see the familiar Advanced Boot Option screen – the same one that’s been around since Windows XP – and you can choose Safe Mode here.
